Kelcy Warren Personifies Hard Work and Modesty

Kelcy Warren is a member of the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, Inc. He was the recipient of the 2016 Horatio Alger Award. At the top of each member’s page there is a quote from the person which sums up an important feature or lesson from their life.

Kelcy Warren is all about a definition of success. It has nothing to do with money or fame. It simply states that success is having no regrets and being at peace with yourself. He finishes by saying he has yet to meet that definition.

His mother never finished high school, but she drove her sons to complete high school and college. The older brother of Kelcy Warren was the first in the family to graduate college. His father worked in the oil business in east Texas. He was content with his job and provided Kelcy with an example of a happy man. Warren was blessed to have two great parents.

Money was tight in the Warren family. His father took on extra jobs. Kelcy Warren worked numerous jobs to save money for college. He enrolled at the University of Texas at Arlington majoring in engineering. He freely admits he was not ready for the freedom of college and flunked out his freshman year.

After a year at home, he straightened his life out, went back to school and graduated with a degree in civil engineering. He worked his way up through the oil and gas industry, eventually co-founding Energy Transfer. He has been very successful in his business life while striving to maintain that balance he mentioned in his introductory statement about success. Kelcy Warren is person to be admired for his hard work and modesty.
