Kelcy Warren’s Biography

Kelcy Warren is the Chairman and CEO of Energy Transfer, a successful energy development company in the US. He was born in 1955 in Gladewater, Texas, to a father who worked for Sun Oil as a ditch digger and gauger and a mother who worked in a department store. Warren learned hard work early because growing up with his three older brothers was difficult.

Despite this hardship, Warren attended high school and later graduated with a degree in civil engineering from The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). He paid his fees at UTA by working various odd jobs ranging from hauling hay to repairing oilfield leaks. After graduating from UTA, Warren began working as a pipeline design engineer for Lone Star Gas Company.

In 1992, he and a partner acquired Endevco and renamed it Cornerstone Natural Gas. Four years later, they sold the company, and Warren co-founded Energy Transfer. Under his leadership, Energy Transfer has grown into one of the country’s largest and most diversified portfolios of publicly traded energy partnerships.

Kelcy Warren is also active in giving back to the community. He established an endowment at UTA in honor of Qasim, his former professor who took a personal interest in him during college. In addition, Warren was the lead donor to Dallas’ Klyde Warren Park, which was named in honor of his son. Furthermore, he hosts an annual fundraiser to support Cherokee Crossroads and has served on the board of The Lamplighter School.

Kelcy Warren has been honored with numerous awards, such as the Gas Processors Suppliers Association’s Hanlon Award and Ernst and Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award. He also received the prestigious Horatio Alger Award in 2018.
